Woman And Career: 5 Steps On The Way To

I am a woman, which means I have the same rights as a man. Moreover, I also have advantages and superiority as a representative of the weaker sex. How can you use them to your advantage and in moving up the career ladder?

Who among us is not attracted to the image of a successful, successful woman in business, with enough money to be independent of her husband and life circumstances? Every working woman seeks not only to earn money quietly, being content with the available salary and schedule but also to become an indispensable valuable employee, constantly climbing the career ladder and receiving ever-higher wages and additional privileges. And do not be afraid that she will be fired for one reason or another.

Yes, there really are no irreplaceable ones. But there are those who are undesirable to replace, those for which employers are fighting. Do you want to be that person?

The path to such a goal is long and painstaking, but surmountable. It is enough just to perform some actions that will lead you to a successful career.

1. Self-Confidence

Of course, the stories about how an unknown girl from the Russian outback met a mega-producer who helped her become a star and a sex symbol of cinema are tempting. But it sounds too far-fetched, doesn’t it?

Of course, such stories happen in the modern world, but are they so commonplace that they happen, if not to everyone, then to you – for sure?

The path to success is your path, and you will have to walk it yourself! Of course, you will meet people who help you walk along this path much faster, but there will also be those who want not only to keep you in one place, but also to step back a couple of steps.

Always and in everything you can rely only on yourself! Even patronage before the authorities, when a husband or one of the many relatives or friends “put in a good word for you”, does not guarantee anything. She will not be able to force the authorities to pay you a salary for something that you cannot cope with.

Help is not a crutch that you will have to rely on for the rest of your life. Think about what you will do if the person you relied on suddenly refuses you further cooperation?

If you get confused and panic, it means that you as an independent unit in the enterprise practically do not exist.

If you know exactly what you will do in this case and even imagine that it can bring you certain benefits (for example, expanding the boundaries of independence), you are a strong and purposeful person, which a good worker and successful careerist should be.

2. Education

In our time, many doors are open to a person with higher education, but there is no admission for a person with a technical school “behind him.” Moreover, at present, even one higher education is no longer enough – everyone is striving to get a second, and even third higher education.

A person with higher education is not only much more likely to get a job, but also to receive higher wages for the same duties that a person with less than a higher education performs.

If you currently do not have a higher education but are already working, or your education is not at all of the profile that you need for work, feel free to storm universities.

By the way, almost all employers have a positive attitude towards the fact that their employees are students – they are freely allowed to attend sessions, often the employer even offers the specialist to get higher education in their specialty, paying for his education under an agreement with the institute.

Of course, you will have to receive education in part-time or part-time (evening) form of education, but this is not as difficult as it might seem to you, even if you are far from twenty. It’s never too late to learn!

3. Is the boss always right?

There is no need to argue with the authorities, even if it is obvious that the leader is not right. Furiously proving your point of view, you most likely will not emerge victorious from the dispute, but only spoil your relationship with management.

But not only for this reason. Patricia Russo, who rounds out the top 10 most powerful women in the world according to Forbes magazine, says:

“I once and for all understood that in order to achieve the goal, any leader needs all his subordinates to share with him his system of values and vision of this goal.

Disagreements are acceptable on tactical issues: what maneuver is the most appropriate and effective at the moment can and should be argued – after all, in disputes, in fact, truth is often born.

If there are good reasons for arguing with the boss (you think that his erroneous opinion can lead to serious trouble – loss of contracts, losses, etc.), then in this case you should draw your boss’s attention to the fact that he is wrong, carefully explaining point by point what, why and what consequences the employer will have as a result of incorrect actions.

Arguing about the timing of the performance of work or its quality is stupid. The boss knows how you should fulfill your obligations – that is why he is in a leadership position.

4. Someone else’s experience

If there is a person in the company you work for or among your acquaintances who has information that can help you become even more professional and know your business even better, do not hesitate to ask him to share his knowledge.

Of course, you should ask a colleague for something persistently, but not intrusively: you don’t need to constantly pester a person with requests to explain this, this, and that – the person will simply decide that you are extremely incompetent.

Yes, constantly distracting from immediate duties is not the best way to arouse sympathy and a desire to help.

Try to reach everything with your own mind, and if it doesn’t work out, feel free to ask for advice.

And remember: it is very important to explain to the person what exactly you do not understand, having carefully prepared for the conversation and having studied the question of interest.

5. Professionalism

I would like to say a single word about those people who are difficult to replace. Why do you think employers care so much about them, trying, by all means, to keep them at their enterprise? Of course, because they are real pros in their field.

The main thing in acquiring professionalism is a narrow profile. This does not mean at all that you will need a minimum of effort and willpower to achieve professional literacy – not at all!

A narrow profile implies excellent knowledge of your business without spraying on trifles and even important things that do not fall within your competence. Remember: it is important to know “perfectly” your work, to constantly improve, striving to achieve the ideal!

No need to try to master those skills that you do not need to perform exactly your duties. A broad outlook is not something that will help you climb up the career ladder – it is good for solving crossword puzzles and small talk.

For example, if you are an advertising agent and your job is to communicate with clients in order to secure a lucrative contract, you do not need to be a promotional genius at all.

You must be able to persuade the client to conclude a contract only through verbal contact with an explanation of all benefits, based on previous positive and negative experiences. Everything else is the work of other specialists, do not take away someone else’s bread!

What is the real secret to success? Probably, its formula consists of a large number of factors. Last but not least, you need to love what you do. Bill Johnson, president of Progress Energy, is said to have given his growing daughters this piece of advice:

“If you really love something, be sure to follow your dream. Work is a long journey, and it is better if you do what you love during this journey.”
